AB SMYM YDH For Direction, Inspiration, Guidance In Completion of needed connection for water tanks, roofing of boathouse sitting exposed for many months. this morning Inspiration for diversion of waste water for irrigation in banana patch. welcome fount of alluvial nutriment, recapturing wash for useful distribution. sharing resource that otherwise dissipates underground. i feel grateful for initiative, measure that will help bolster health of this patch requiring great feeding of weed piles gathered. another patch is fed by piling of old cardboard accumulated from island wide measure to discourage use of plastic bags. boxes were made available by merchants to carry out goods. paper use is returning because of this implementation. it is an expedient statute albeit causing great inconvenience in beginning, we being creatures of habit. now, we are like europeans, bringing our own bags to shop naturally without complaint.
other places are exercising similar practice, seeing we have a floating eternal island of plastic size of a continent! sea animals suffer greatly swallowing, entangled in strangulation of man-made materials that do not break down easily. walking along pristine beaches in the south of this island you may collect refuse washed by ocean to our shore from the world around. these throwaways make residence on unfrequented shores profusely. we four wheel to go camping in solitude places with friends only to be met with inundation of garbage. we take these out in bag loads. one time, seven full, each one filled, just from our little spot on the beach. the rest still covered with plastic trash strewn. in all manner, sizes, shapes of plastics scattered by ocean on the shoreline. groups go in to remove this debris regularly as community service. one time, we saw a block bale of cotton like material, except it was not cotton but some synthetic artificial fiber. many buoys are found of all different materials, marine rope also, amid smattering of bottles, caps, broken plastic parts, arrayed like sand and stones, only they are not natural.
anything enduring has to be sustainable. plastic is not. it will be wise to return to use of natural materials that nature can handle and deal with. there was a recent proposal against another proposal of incineration on this island. i vouched for non-incineration, seeing that i have been able to live trash-less for many a year. diligent sorting of recyclables, composting of all scrap food waste to nourish the land. supporting growth of plants takes care of these ’waste’. it is in mindless dumping into trash barrels, where places like here still accepts, that creates these monstrous, toxic piles that require huge machinery to move, then cover in toxic sites called landfill. now burnt, poisoning the air, as if poisoning the ground is not enough to kill us. if each family will attend and be responsible for sorting their own stuffs before throwing away, a profitable recycling business is promising. if we begin by being mindful of things we buy, being aware of systems and processes we support with dollars we spend. knowing everything you buy and take home eventually has to be dealt with, in the trash.
we make intentional rare trips to the dump. once in every few months, to bring sorted, cleaned recyclables to be collected and reused, hopefully in some good manner. useful things we convert on situ at home. natural decomposing items we use around the land. only plastics we cannot deal with goes back out to be recycled. careful to not procure things covered in them if we can. i do not know in the end that plastic is cheaper than its natural counterpart. being it does not decompose properly to return to land or sea. death-cause of this material mounts high choking so much life out of earth. first, in its production, then in use, last in disposal. i feel we realize this problem but solution is slow to evolve because we are not as one in our awareness, realization, approach of this issue.
i have made a decision many years before to support only processes that are beneficial to land, people, animals. prayerfully, every dollar spent is in full awareness. this continues to be a commitment, to never cause harm to anything. we, part of the whole, are affected by every single decision and action collectively. passengers of this planet are not independent. thus wars, conflicts, disagreements are foolish. if we know that we are but family, fighting hurts, creates no long term gain. distance does not negate this principle, we live in the same home, earth. every act that destroys spells death for every one. companies that operate on principles against LIFE is against every one. spraying poisons to grow things for profit is foolishness. killing the bug, yes, also the land, people, animals, earth itself, very sick and dying. what are we doing to right it?
